About
Guy Somers
Guy
Somers has
taught hundreds of students to play, sound & perform better on
guitar (acoustic, electric & classical), bass, banjo,
mandolin, mountain dulcimer & ukulele.
Equipped
with years of experience, education and an encouraging
attitude, Guy makes learning guitar fun. He delivers on
helping students reach their goals, learn quicker, solve
problems and avoid the frustrations and bad habits of
learning on their own. As Technical Editor of
Guitar Exercises For Dummies
(USA top-selling instruction book series) he excels at
making guitar simple.
He is a
Southwest Iowa,
multi-style guitarist, multi-instrumentalist,
guitar teacher, band leader and composer.
Guy studied at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory, Southern
Missouri State, with
Billy McLaughlin,
Steve Eckles
and
Mark Hanson. He has accompanied
Rebecca Kia (Manheim Steamroller) and
Will McFarlane (Bonnie Raitt). He
was a finalist in the 2009 and 2010 Iowa's Got Talent Competition.
He also has a B.A. in
Theological Studies with a minor in counseling.
He started out as an
award winning artist in high school but it was
his passion for music that won. He loves to
organize, analyze and achieve goals. When he's not playing he enjoys cooking, drinking tea,
talking with family & friends, meeting people, landscaping
and studying design.
